With each imminent season change, there is also a very noticeable change in attitude, demeanor, and compassion here on the Outer Banks. Spring is restless as if everyday is the night before Christmas as every pool cleaner, bartender, and retail store impatiently waits for the summer frontier to peer its beautifully ugly head in the near distance. Summer is brutal for any resident on the Outer Banks. Each week a new million tourists filter into their home away from home for the week while clogging roads and restaurants for miles and miles. Summer is make or break for most of the customer service industry so you need to make each day count.
But Fall. Ah fall! How could one have anything bad at all to say about fall? If summer is the ugly kid in your backseat looking at you in your rear view mirror then Fall is the girl next door who you’ve crushed on for 10 years. Fall is the one who was always too good for you but for some reason you thought you still had a chance to indulge in the beauty. Lower temperatures, arguably the best surf of the year, beautiful sunsets. When Fall comes to my mind I smile, I think about the song “Seasons” by Future Islands. I tend to holster an amazing mood for the whole of Fall.
Winter. Christmas is awesome, the rest of winter we will just skip this year, hop right back into spring.
